SNM131: How To Break Into The Fashion Industry
I’m not much of a fashion expert anymore. But that’s ok. You can break into the fashion world following a few very simple principles.
You Like What You Like
Don’t worry about high fashion, fashion shows, and runway models.
The biggest fashion brands are the ones that appeal to the masses.
Whenever you heard about a one billion dollar fashion line, you hear that it’s one carried by Target or Walmart.
It’s not the boutiques in London making the real money.

Why fight to be the coolest, when the real money is making clothes for regular people like me?
The Advent of Print on Demand
When I was in high school, I learned how to silkscreen by hand.
I would by the screen, paint on it and then run a screen onto shirts and sweatshirts.
It was labor intensive and expensive.
Once I had a design on that screen, I could only make that design over and over.
If I wanted a new design, I could either destroy the old template forever or buy a brand new screen.
But now the world has changed.
It’s amazing.
I can upload an image to Shopify and people can start ordering that design just a few minutes later!
