Instagram is a very powerful social network that many people struggle to understand. Why do people want to look at pictures of my dinner? When did taking selfies become a business?

Social networks are changing and the key element is the shortening of the message.
What is shorter than a tweet? Taking a picture!
When something works, the other social networks will steal it and strip away the stuff that doesn’t.

Hashtags are here to stay and all social networks now use them.
When I’m scrolling through my Facebook feed, I basically ignore all the text posts.
I only look at the pictures.
And that’s what Instagram is.
The key demographic for social media is teenagers and these days none of them are using Twitter or Facebook.
They are all about Snapchat and Instagram.
Simple messages work better.
Build an Army
The best thing about Instagram is the ease with which you can go viral.
Twenty years ago emails were going viral and getting forwarded like crazy.
Now if someone forwarded you a funny email you would block them forever.
Videos and images are all the rage and will stay that way until 3D really comes into its own.
Now is the time to build up an easy following and get your message out there.
The reason our generation is intimidated by these new platforms is that they seem just so….simple.
Surely it can’t be that easy?
But look at my feed.
When I switched from smart pictures to photos of my islands with loads of hashtags, the likes started rolling in.
