Repurpose Podcast Content – How To Turn One Episode Into 12 Posts Guide

Creating good quality content and providing value for your audience is not an easy business. You spend hours in your studio with your equipment, editing, and cutting through recordings. The pressure of being genuine while doing your job is real and you deal with it every single week.

You worry about producing the perfect material that’s going to be super relevant, but then the next week comes, and the previous episode is buried and pushed in the pile with the other episodes, lost and forgotten for good. It never sees the light again.

This is the ultimate how-to guide to repurposing your podcast.

Why Repurpose Your Podcast Content?

repurpose podcast content

Why would you invest your time in dealing with published materials, you may ask? Here are the top 3 reasons why you absolutely need to repurpose your content ASAP:

Reach new audiences

For starters. More people will hear about you and potentially become your followers, and through content repurposing, you can reach out to people with different formats. For example, people with an impaired hearing or hearing loss may not be able to enlighten themselves through your podcast, but they can through, say, blog posts, or a transcript.

So you stretch your possibilities, you boost your growth, but you also provide options for people, and that’s valuable. Not everyone enjoys auditory learning. Not everyone is a fan of listening, some people prefer watching or reading to listening. Give them that opportunity. Audio files for podcasts are long enough to be sliced or formatted for different channels, should you take a full episode into an account.

Brand awareness

Thanks to one podcast episode, you can slowly start establishing yourself as an authority and gain credibility by creating shareable pieces.

Repurpose your podcast content to have a lot more interactions with your audience, hence, increasing the popularity of your brand; making people become aware of its existence, your podcast brand message, and that’s something you want to aim for. You know, gaining recognition and trust.

Transcriptions

By using transcription software, you can transcribe your podcasts and make them available for people struggling with a hearing loss, and also for people who prefer to have things written down, in order to read and highlight important information, and you can use Descript for that, which is a software that I use for my podcast transcriptions. Always use a full episode.

You have 3 hours for free and if you need more, you can get 30 hours of transcribing for $24 a month.

Show Notes

This is just a one-page document with the highlights from the episode. I include 3 to 4 major points that were discussed during the episode, the resources I mention for my audience like important links and websites, and my sponsors.

Presentations

Never miss a good chance to create a presentation using SlideShare. You can start by putting in the name of the episode, the topic, or the name of your guest, and then dig into the gist. In the end, provide the link to your actual episode for all those interested in learning more.

Ebook

Say you have anchored a few related podcasts. There are different ways to repurpose your episodes are several but is surely one of the best in repurposing your podcast. Transcribe your episodes, adding the notes, some key takeaways, the recordings from the episodes, and before you know it, you got yourself an ebook!

Transcripts have to be clean and punctuated properly, so your readers can get a high-quality asset.

Reuse Your Podcast Episode

Webinars

You made that presentation alright. Now you can turn it into a fine webinar. Spread the word on social media and if you can find a few other speakers to join your webinar, even better. Your webinar has to have a prevailing topic, though. For example, the webinar I held this November zoomed in on how to get higher conversions.

Email Marketing

Okay, this does not quite fall under the how to repurpose content category, but it sure is helpful. Email your subscribers one of the episodes, share it with them via email, so they can visit your site and not only listen to the episode if interested but go through other episodes as well.

Turn Podcast Episodes Into Videosrepurpose podcast content

How to reuse your podcast episodes –where to publish it next? Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Twitter… be present on all social platforms. Your material deserves to reach out to more people. You put in hard work, time, blood, and effort into making it, so don’t give up on it just yet!

In addition, I’ll share with you all the forms in which repurposing podcast content makes sense and how to make it shareable:

Video

This is an astounding way of how to repurpose content for social media. Record yourself while doing the episode in front of unique background and have your coffee while talking. Invite your audience to drink their cup of coffee or tea with you while listening to your podcast episodes. Why not?

In case you have a guest, even better! Film the interview with your guest for the episode, loosen up, talk, and make some jokes! People love authenticity mixed with value. You can never go wrong with giving people more insight into that behind the scenes of the episode. Publish your video on social media and YouTube, so it gains an even bigger exposure.

Live video

Live streaming rocks. In your live videos which don’t have to be longer than 7-8 minutes, you can talk about your niche and give people useful tips and advice, share important information with them, products, or gifts, and you can recommend the stuff you use and find extremely effective. You can shoot these live videos in your backyard if you can’t think of a better place. I shoot my live videos in my garden.

Video teasers or audiograms

Teasers are made from the golden trio: text, images, and auditory derived from published episodes. Fuse these 3 into one and voila! Audiograms focus on the most important bits and pieces of the episode and give viewers a taste of what they can expect to learn in the episode, and what exactly you’re going to cover.

Instagram story / IGTV

A great way to make use of your Instagram and an even greater way of repurposing a piece of content for social platforms is to post stories where you announce important events, inform your audience, or recommend a product or service. You can mention important links you want people to go to, or just mention that they are in your bio, or that people can swipe up to check them out.

Instagram is exploding right now, it’s the leading social platforms force of our generation, so you want to meet your audience there and spread the word about your brand. Posting regularly, like once a day, is your best bet. It helps to have a plan for how each week will look like and a roadmap you’ll cover during each of the 7 days.

Always plan in advance – that’s what I do for all my FB lives. That way, if something unexpected happens, you are still going strong. Illnesses, birthdays, problems with the team… none of that matters. You got yourself covered in ADVANCE.

Turn Podcast Content Into Images

Image quotes

You have your live videos ready, right? That means you are ready to repurpose video content. Pick up the highlights from those videos, and turn them into quotes, which you can later share on social media.

You can play with the graphics of the image and insert some further explanation above the image using some emojis.

Turn Podcast Content Into Blog Posts

Running a website takes time, but running a blog takes even more. Having a blog proves that you are invested in your website and, thus, your business. It proves that not only do you have the time and resources to manage your business’ website, but you also have the time to put thought into informative, interesting blog posts. Blog posts can be challenging to write, especially if you are branching out into an area that you aren’t very familiar with. A business blog proves that your business is well-rounded, and, more importantly, it proves that you are well-rounded. If you can maintain a business, a website, and a blog to go along with it, you’ll prove to your readers that you are worth listening to.

Turning your podcast into a long blog form is a wonderful way to repurposing your podcast and here’s why:

It’s written content that you can share on every social media channel or email to your subscribers. Posts are easy to make not because they represent an easy writing task, but because they are already there. And since you have all the materials written it just comes down to formatting it differently. Start with your full episode transcripts as a base for a new episode post. You can even shuffle through the audio archive in a search of an idea.

Benefits

A blog is also a good way to attract visitors who might not have been looking for your particular product or service in the first place. They might have been searching for something else when they stumbled upon your blog by chance. If they stay to read a blog post, there’s a good chance that they’ll click around and visit the other pages on your site. And that raises your chances of selling your product.

A blog makes your website more competitive. It is an extra component of your site that further showcases what you and your business can do, and it’s almost like a requirement on a checklist for online businesses these days. Most readers expect a blog on a website, so having one automatically boosts your site’s appeal in their minds. And you should always be looking for opportunities for any extra boost.

A blog can also help with SEO or search engine optimization. If your website is limited to your product or service, there are only so many keywords that you can use for SEO. But if you have a blog, you’ll be writing about several different topics, all of which will give you more keywords.

For example, if you run an editing service for indie authors, your blog posts could consist of success stories from the authors who have used your editing service, tips for indie authors, or maybe even guest posts by indie authors or other editors. Each post on your blog opens up more opportunities for more keywords, visits, and engagement on your site.

Your blog articles should have target keywords, pictures, or screenshots if you are teaching or showing people how to do something, and your title should not be misleading, i.e. people should know what they can get out of reading your blog posts. False promises are a huge turn-off. To help you out, here is a list of new year blog post ideas you can start working on now.

How to Repurpose Blog Content Guide

If you were wondering how to reuse your blog content–where to republish it and not to duplicate it, here are two ways of doing it.

I mean, it doesn’t end there. The interviews with your guests-you can transform them into blog articles as well, and what’s really sweet is that you can also publish guest posts on your blog.

Tools For Repurposing Podcast Content

Podcast, how to start it? I talked about podcasts a lot, but I didn’t mention how to start your podcast. Buzzsprout is the podcast hosting I use. You have 90 days FREE and you can create, publish, track, and promote your episodes there.

As I mentioned already, I do all my transcriptions on Descript, which is another software I could not imagine my life without. I struggled with my eyes for years, which dictated how I derive content, but I understand that not all people are auditory learners, so Descript helped me reshape my content and be there for my audience in every possible way.

Audacity, on the other hand, is your multi-track editor for audio content and recorder not just for Windows, but also for MAC OS, Linux, and all the other operating systems. Apart from the recording and editing, you have export/import features, sound quality, effects, visualizing and selecting frequency modes, and plugin support for LADSPA, LV2, VST, Nyquist, and Audio Unit effect plug-ins.

As for my notes, I use Amazon S3. Amazon S3 serves as the storage server on the internet. It’s really simple and helps you retrieve data anytime, anywhere. It stores objects within buckets and it does a great job with the availability, durability, and security of your data.

Repurposing your content wouldn’t be the same without SEMrush. In the end, you have to optimize your content for search engines. Thanks to this tool you can track your competition, tweak your content and keywords, or modify and adjust your FB campaign and be at the top of your game.

And in the context of podcast repurposing, the platform has the platform called SEMrush Content Marketplace where you can find great content on social media, and ask SEMrush’s team to pair you up with an experienced content writer who will produce an SEO optimized blog post from any piece of content be it a video, an episode of your podcast, or even some checklist.

Adobe Premiere Pro is the tool I use for video editing. It allows for integrated workflow and mobile workstations. You can edit any footage and craft it into a polished, nicely put-together film or video.

The tool works with Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Audition, and Adobe Stock. You can open or customize Motion Graphics templates from one of these apps, or integrate with a certain extension. You can create your presentations with the software and edit your pictures, making eye-catching infographics.
