Six Essential Tips On How To Make Money Blogging
So, you found your niche, and you want to start blogging. But you don’t just want to get your writing out there; instead, you are interested in learning how to make money blogging. It can seem a little overwhelming at first. After all, how do you find people who want to buy what you have to offer? And, more importantly, how do you write content they will not grow bored of? In this post, I am going to give you some steps to help you make money from your blog.
1. Get your own domain
If you are interested in blogging to make money, one of the first things you need to do is buy your own domain name. Now, you might be thinking, “What’s wrong with having a blog that ends in ‘.wordpress.com’?” There’s nothing wrong with that if you want to be a hobby blogger. If you want to share your writing with people because it is fun and you enjoy writing in your free time, then go for it. But you’re here because you want to make money from your blog. And if you are serious about making money, you need to have your own domain name. There doesn’t seem to be a big difference between the two options, but there is. In fact, launching a blog isn’t that scary. You can do it in 5 easy steps – from launch to your first post.
Now, when you have your own domain name, you have total control over your blog. No one else owns your content, and they can’t take profits from your ads. Having your own domain gives you the power to earn money from ads yourself. The other benefit of having your own domain is that you don’t have to worry about anyone taking your content down. This can happen when you don’t own the space you are writing on. Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms can take your content down in a heartbeat if they don’t like it. Having your own domain name prevents this from happening.
2. Look for your audience

This is something you need to do before you start your blog. Otherwise, you will be wasting your time targeting people who aren’t looking for what you want to sell. If you can locate your target audience from the start, you will be more likely to get email subscribers, and you’ll make money faster.
One way to find your audience is on other blogs. Look for blogs in your niche, and make helpful comments on some of their posts. The more thoughtful your comments are, the more that blog’s followers will see you. And the more they see you, the more likely they will be to investigate your blog and potentially subscribe.
You can also look for your audience on social media. If you join online Facebook groups and web forums dedicated to your niche, you’ll have an easier time interacting with your potential audience.
3. Stick with your blog niche
One thing you should never do is give up too early. I know, it can be discouraging if you don’t see many new subscribers after you’ve put in all of that effort, and you might not even think it’s worth it.
But don’t give up. We don’t always see great results right away. Thomas Edison sure didn’t when he was trying to make the light bulb. It took him 1,000 attempts before he was successful. But he didn’t give up, not even after the 999th failure.
Now, I’m not saying that it will take that many failures for you to become a success. You may even be successful right away. Just don’t give up if you aren’t. Great things have come from many failures. After all, brilliant content doesn’t happen – it’s created. On that path creating a blog draft list might come handy when searching for a next blog post winner.
Sometimes, it may be difficult to find your audience. But once you do, you will find your reward, and you won’t have to do all of the work by yourself anymore. Once you have some happy subscribers, they will tell people they know about your blog, and you can start building your audience without any extra work.
4. Blog Search engine optimization
If you’re wondering, “How do I make money from blogging,” one of the easiest ways is to learn SEO. Knowing how to find the right keywords will bring the most traffic to your blog. This may not be the most enjoyable part of blogging, but it is one of the most important parts of making money from your blog.
You will make more money if you can find the best keywords for each of your posts. This may sound complicated, but it isn’t as hard as it sounds.
First of all, don’t just throw in any keyword that is even remotely related to your post. You want to attract readers who are interested in buying from you, so you need to make sure that your keyword choices are tailored for the specific things your ideal customers are searching for.
Of course, you don’t know for sure what they will search or how they might find you. But taking an educated guess is a great start to leading potential buyers your way.
5. Keep learning about writing
This may seem obvious, but it is a very important point. Learn as much as you can about writing the most effective blog posts you can. You might think that you can just throw something together and gain some followers. But you need to craft a good blog post that will keep your subscribers interested and coming back for more.
A great way to keep learning is to find successful blogs that have well-written posts and study how they are written. A proven method of learning which will help you to create good foundational blog content.
Take note of the writing style that works best for these types of blog posts. Not every style of writing will be ideal for you, and not every style will be appropriate for blogging.
You may have learned to write in the Chicago Manual of Style in college. That’s great for academic papers, but quoting word-for-word and writing out the post title and URL in a citation just isn’t the best choice for blogging.
The writing style may also depend on your niche. Look at what some of the successful bloggers in your topic do. Take notes and try to implement the best parts of what they do in your writing.
Another great way to keep learning is to do some copy work. Up until the 20th century, this was a very popular exercise in schools. Even though it’s taught less than it was, it is still a valuable writing exercise today. Take some quality writing and copy it by hand. This will help you learn more about how good writing is structured.
6. Craft good blog titles
One of the most important things you can do for your blog is to craft good titles. If you want to make money off of your blog, this is a must. If your titles are boring, even people who would be totally interested in what you have to say may pass right over your blog.
There are tools out there that can help you find out if your title is a catchy one. One site you can try is Buzzsumo. Most of their services have to be paid for, but you can use their basic search several times a day to test your potential titles. This will give you ideas of how to make your titles catchier.
When coming up with your titles, don’t just settle for the first one you like. Make a list of several different options. Don’t pick one until you have finished writing your post, as you may get more ideas as you go through the process of writing your piece.
Before you settle on a title, run it by some people you know. Ask what their reaction is to each title, and they can tell you if that title would convince them to read your post.
Maybe you have already been blogging for a while now. What do you do about the boring titles on your previous posts? Go ahead and fix them. There is no harm in that. It will only benefit you when you have new visitors to your blog. If they see new-and-improved titles on your past posts, they may be more likely to click on them.
The more posts you can get your visitors to read, no matter when you wrote them, the more likely they will be to stick around and subscribe for more. I certainly like to go back through old posts on blogs I like because I don’t want to miss out on any of the good content the author has shared.
Now that I’ve given you some tips on how to make money blogging, go out and try them. Purchase your own domain, look for your audience, stick with it, learn about search engine optimization, craft some good titles, and be sure to take the time to learn as much as you can about writing.
