You ship the book to an Amazon warehouse for sale and you put in a prime price of $200, as this now becomes a prime product (this is FBA, whoever buys your book is getting the book from an Amazon warehouse).

The difference between these two prices is your profit. So in this example, you paid $30 for a non-prime textbook you bought from a merchant; you shipped it to an Amazon warehouse, made it prime and sold it to someone for $200, you have profited $170.

Of course, you’ll need to minus all the fees from the profit you’ve gained but overall you’ll still be over $100 in profit. Magical, right?

Buy a book at a low price, sell it at a high price, pocket the difference.

I guess the big buzzkill here is the fact that it takes time to search for profitable books, or physically walk from thrift shop to thrift shop, but that’s what the custom software is for! The software is here to save the day, and by day I mean huge amounts of time.

Let’s clarify with an example; The textbook on mechanics is in high demand, so Amazon gives you a trade-in option if you have this book.

Maybe your aunt Rose gave you this book, maybe you were a mechanical engineer and used this book in college, maybe you’ve seen it on a discount in a bookshop, or maybe you’ve found a 3rd party seller on Amazon that offers to sell this book for $50.

Doesn’t matter even if it’s a seller on some other online shopping platform, what matters is, in this example, you bought the textbook for $50. So you checked out Amazon’s trade-in offer in which they are willing to pay, let’s say $250 to someone who has this book.

So you trade in your mechanics textbook you bought for $50 and you receive $250. And boom, profit.

Amazon loves this because if they are offering a trade-in option which means they have someone that wants to buy this book for even more than they are offering you to trade it in. So when you do trade it in, you profit, and so does Amazon.

Now, let’s say that this book has been in high demand for a while, but the demand for it dropped over time, and you’ve already bought the book on mechanics and submitted it to the trade-in program which no longer offers $250, it now offers $150.

Turn that frown upside down, because you didn’t lose your profit because Amazon locks in your trade-in price for 25 full days. So even if the offer price drops, Amazon will honor your initial agreement. 

Even better, if the trade-in offer goes higher (for example $300), you can just cancel your current trade-in ($250) and claim the new trade-in option. So you gain either way.

This method is great because you know how much profit you’ll make right from the very beginning. 

Also, there are a couple of benefits related to Amazon’s trade-in program, firstly, when you send Amazon the book they need, they cover the shipping (your book goes with a free paid label). You get paid as soon as the book reaches an Amazon warehouse.

And if this becomes a pattern of good business trades, you might get paid instantly before your book even reaches Amazon.
