One of the fastest ways to make money as a writer is writing for other people.  There are always thousands of blogs, magazines and news sites desperate for more content.  Writing like this is a great way to hone your skills and make more money.  There is nothing better than getting paid to learn.

Slow Work

Building your own blog is very rewarding.  It feels wonderful to have total control over your destiny, but it can take time for those profits to come rolling in.  Just converting my website to the new design took over a month.

Building a blog is about the long view.  I can take a long time to earn any money, but from that first dollar your profits will shoot up like a rocket ship.

Mixed Strategy

The smartest move is to combine short term and long term projects.  Use the money from your writing jobs to support you until your long term projects explode and the money comes pouring in.
